ITPI Conference is the Largest Gathering in ITP History
On May 17th and 18th, 2008, the largest gathering of practitioners in ITP history convened in Marin County, California. Over 125 participants, many representing ITP groups from across the country, met to deepen their practices and learn about the integral vision of Michael Murphy.
Michael Murphy’s inspiring talks laid out the theoretical roots of ITP, the role of integral practices in the expansion of human functioning and the emergence of metanormal capacities. Michael discussed the exciting possibility that evolution may be poised for its next great leap, perhaps of the magnitude of the emergence of life or mind.
ITP co-founder George Leonard’s presence at the conference was evident, though he was unable to attend. His wife, Annie Styron Leonard, spoke about George’s attentive following of the conference events. George created a dramatic new LET exercise specifically for this conference, which was presented by Pam Kramer and Barry Robbins.
The event marked the long-awaited launch of the LET (Leonard Energy Training) manual, available to the public for the first time. LET Manual co-author Joel Kirsh led a lively demonstration of LET practices, and discussed how they have been used by athletes and in many venues such as schools.
Michael Murphy was joined by athletes Dave Meggessey and Mike Spino for a spirited discussion of how extraordinary human attributes and mystical states emerge in sport, and how these capacities can be fostered.
Marilyn Schlitz, Institute of Noetic Sciences senior research psychologist, reported on transformation study findings that demonstrate the positive impact of ITP. Christina Grote, ITPI Board Chair, discussed the vision of ITPI and its initiatives to support the growth of ITP in communities and organizations around the country and world.
Participants enjoyed connecting with practitioners from around the country. The enthusiastic energy of the conference permeated all activities, which included a reception that was beautifully catered by Christine Rickerby and a marvelous performance by jazz guitarist Tim Cleary. The conference was also a successful fundraiser for ITPI, made possible through generous raffle and silent auction donations from local merchants, conference presenters and ITP members.
ITPI extends a special thank you to CITP Marin for hosting this event, and to the many volunteers whose dedication made conference logistics run so smoothly. The positive impact of the conference on participants can be seen by their comments below:
