About ITP International
ITP International (ITPI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Corte Madera, California. Since 2005 we have stewarded Integral Transformative Practice® (ITP), a long-term practice for body, mind, heart, and soul co-created by George Leonard and Michael Murphy, with roots in decades of work at the Esalen Institute. We run online programs, weekly practice sessions, and annual community events, and our members join and renew through the website.
We are a small staff working alongside a community of ITP teachers.
About the Role
ITPI is seeking a Drupal developer to keep our website secure and running well. The right person, or agency team, maintains Drupal sites with care, prefers standard and maintainable solutions to heavy customization, and is someone our small staff can turn to when something isn't working. This role is ongoing maintenance. We may consider a larger rebuild in the future, which we'd scope separately.
We welcome proposals from both independent developers and small agencies.
The site runs on Drupal 10.5, hosted on Pantheon, and needs to move to Drupal 11, as Drupal 10 reaches end of life on December 9, 2026. The upgrade itself will be scoped and agreed separately, based on the initial assessment.
The work begins with a defined, paid initial project: an assessment of the site and initial fixes, with its own scope and fee. We expect it to take roughly 15 to 20 hours at your hourly rate, assuming the site is in reasonable shape, and we'll confirm the scope together after an intro call. When it's complete, we'll decide together on an ongoing maintenance agreement.
All work requests come through Robert, our point of contact for the site. When Robert is unavailable, we'll name another team member to cover. Work runs against a monthly hour estimate agreed in advance. If a request falls outside the agreed scope or would take the month beyond its estimate, please flag it before starting. All accounts, code, and repositories connected to the site are owned by ITPI.
To help calibrate proposals: the site uses Drupal Commerce with Stripe and PayPal for memberships and online purchases, includes custom templates, and has development and test environments on Pantheon.
Core Responsibilities
Initial project
- Update core to a supported Drupal 10 release.
- Review the site's technical state: core, contributed and custom modules, custom templates, integrations, and the status report.
- Assess what the Drupal 11 upgrade will take, including contributed modules, custom templates and code, and provide an estimate.
- Fix anything urgent (site down, checkout broken, or a security issue).
- Review the recommendations from a recent security and continuity audit, which we'll share with you, and implement the items we agree on together, such as multi-factor authentication for administrators and a simpler admin role structure.
- Review our Commerce setup with input from staff on what's working and what isn't, and recommend any changes.
- Deliver a short written summary of findings and recommended priorities.
Ongoing
- Apply monthly security patches and core and module updates, tested in the development and test environments before they go live.
- Troubleshoot and fix issues when something breaks, including templates or layouts affected by updates.
- Advise on how to get what we need within Drupal's standard capabilities.
- Help when staff hit a problem adding or editing content, coordinated through Robert (the content itself stays with staff).
- Keep a brief log of changes made to the site.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience maintaining production Drupal 9 or 10 sites, including security updates and module management.
- Experience upgrading Drupal sites across major versions, ideally Drupal 10 to 11.
- Experience with Drupal Commerce and payment gateway integrations.
- Prefers standard, maintainable solutions to heavy customization, and will say when a request would make the site harder to maintain.
- Explains technical issues clearly and patiently to non-technical people.
- Steady, reliable availability, including on short notice when something breaks.
- Enjoys being a steady resource for a small team.
- At least a few hours of overlap with US Pacific business hours on weekdays.
- References required, including at least one client whose site you maintain on an ongoing basis.
Preferred
- Experience with Pantheon.
- Experience working with nonprofit clients.
- Experience preventing spam on web forms.
