Simon Cox is a martial artist, scholar, and teacher. He trained for six years at Wudang Mountain under Master Yuan Xiugang, studying tai chi, qigong, and Daoist meditation, and later earned a PhD in religion from Rice University. He is the author of The Subtle Body: A Genealogy (Oxford University Press, 2022). Simon is a research fellow at Esalen's Center for Theory & Research and a visiting scholar at Harvard Divinity School. He meets weekly with Esalen co-founder Michael Murphy and is writing a book on Esalen's intellectual history. He is based in Penticton, British Columbia, where he runs a kung fu school with his wife.
